Most parents know that NLB libraries run holiday programmes. Fewer realise the scale.

The 398.2 Storytelling Festival 2026 runs from 9 May to 25 July at public libraries island-wide. Performances are delivered in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil by storytellers from the Storytelling Association (Singapore), under this year's theme 'Brave Hearts, Clever Minds.' Sessions are designed for children aged 4–6, with inclusive sessions for children with special needs. Entry is free. Check the NLB website for session dates and venues before you go. Running alongside it is the NLB Sci-Fi Pop-up Library at Parkway Parade: nearly 4,000 science fiction books, graphic novels and comics in a standalone pop-up space, with an exhibition area and an AI StoryGen experience. National Parks: Guided Walks, Botanic Gardens and a Few Things You'd Never Guess Were Free

NParks runs a full programme of guided walks, workshops and holiday sessions every June. Most are free and require booking through the NParks website in advance.

The Jacob Ballas Children's Garden at Singapore Botanic Gardens is one of the best free family activities in the country. Designed for children aged 12 and below, it has a water play area, toddler zone, rainforest treehouses, a flying fox zipline, a sandpit, a fruit orchard and a cave with a man-made waterfall. The Scent & Spices Festival runs at Fort Canning Park from 30 May to 30 June. Children's Season at the National Museum (and the Museums Near It)

Every June the National Museum of Singapore runs its Children's Season. This year's theme is 'Get Curious! All About the River,' exploring how the Singapore River shaped the nation. It runs from 30 May to 28 June and is designed for children aged 3 and above. Entry is free.

The season includes several drop-in activities alongside the main installation. Kamishibai Storytelling by Sarah Ang uses traditional Japanese paper theatre to bring stories to life for young audiences. The River Hunt sends children on a mission-based artefact hunt through the museum's collection. Fold Your Own Fleet teaches origami models of vessels that once sailed Singapore's waters: sampans, bumboats and steamships. While stocks last. Gardens by the Bay Has More Free Options Than Most People Remember

Gardens by the Bay is often thought of as a ticketed destination. The outdoor gardens have always been free. During the June holidays there are more reasons to go than usual.

The Children's Festival 2026 runs at the Supertree Grove from 30 May to 21 June, with outdoor play challenges inspired by Disney's Winnie the Pooh. The theme is friendship and the simple joys of life. Free admission.

The Far East Organization Children's Garden is a dedicated free outdoor play space for children aged 12 and below, with water play, a toddler zone, rainforest treehouses and an amphitheatre. Adults are admitted only when accompanying a child. Ongoing.

Garden Rhapsody is a free 15-minute light and sound show at the Supertree Grove, held twice nightly at 7.45pm and 8.45pm. The musical themes change through the year. Accessible for all ages.

Sentosa's Free Side Is Better Than Most People Realise

Sentosa is not the first name that comes to mind for free family outings. It should be. Beach access is free. For June 2026, the free programming goes further.

Movies by the Beach: Family Fest runs from 13 to 28 June at Palawan Kidz City Roof Garden. The programme is a curated outdoor animation film marathon. Free entry, no pre-booking required. Every Sunday adds craft stations and a best-dressed competition. Doors open from 6pm.

Palawan, Siloso and Tanjong beaches are all free to access. For families visiting on a weekend, pairing a beach morning with the evening movie screenings makes for a full day with no entry costs.

Community Clubs and the National Family Festival

The People's Association and SportSG are running free FIFA World Cup 2026 live screenings at over 50 Community Clubs island-wide, as well as at five ActiveSG Sport Centres and Kallang Wave Mall.
